Equipdb Data Maintenance

Equipment tracking data is captured and recorded through several processes administered by Logistics Services. This includes Computing Division equipment as well as a subset of equipment owned and operated by other sections of the lab. Submit questions or comments to equipdb@fnal.gov.

·  Receiving
All Computing Division equipment purchases are routed through Logistics Services receiving at FCC for further disposition. Under normal circumstances new receipts are processed and tagged within 48 hours. Database updates are generally performed on the following day.

·  CD/PREP Service Counter transactions
Records are maintained for all equipment issued, returned, exchanged, or submitted for repair at the counter. Database updates are generally performed on the day following the transaction. Equipment submitted to the service counter as excess/scrap is processed as part of the bulk return process below.

·  Bulk Returns - Excess/Scrap
Processing bulk returns, which are usually pallet load shipments delivered to the FCC dock, are inventoried and submitted through a disposition process which generally involves the CD Equipment Mgr. It could be several weeks from the date of receipt before the database updates are performed.

·  Field Computer Service
Equipment transactions performed by contract service providers managed by CD are recorded and tracked. Information relating to installations, de-installations, and exchanges is submitted to Logistics Services by the service provider along with the associated service request detail. It could be several weeks from the date of service before this information is received and updated.

·  And....
There are several other processes which provide remote tracking data to Logistics Services. Primary is the administration of hardware maintenance contracts. These updates are generally performed within a few days unless there are large quantities involved.
