Below are images of good and severely worn capture/eject handles from VIPA64x modules.
This image shows a new capture/eject mechanism for a VIPA64x module.
Note the existence of double hook at the top right of the black portion
of the mechanism for ejecting and seating the module.
Notice the lack of a capture hook at top right of this handle. The
loss of this material has been attributed to the sharp edges of the puched
holes in the Capture/Eject rails. With this much material missing,
it is difficult or nearly impossible to use the capture feature to pull
the module to a fully seated position. It is estimated that some
cards may require up to 60 lbs. of force to fully seat them. The eject
portion of the handle is relatively intact. If an excessive amount
of material is missing from the eject portion of the handle, ejection from
the subrack will become difficult also.
The sharp edges of the punched holes are being addressed, and a final solution is expected during May, 1998.
NOTE: A new design for the capture/eject handle is being developed
by several manufacturers. It is not expected to be ready until mid
to late 1999.
