Adaptec AHA-2940AU SCSI Host Adapter Card Setup

    Notes:

· In order to complete this installation procedure, you must be able to log in as ADMINISTRATOR under Windows NT.
· All files specified in this document are available as a self-extracting ZIP file here.
  1. Power down your computer, unplug the AC power cord, and remove the computer's cover.
  2. Install the Adaptec AHA-2940AU SCSI host adapter into any empty PCI slot.
  3. Replace the computer cover and power the computer on.
  4. Once in Windows NT, go to Start>>Settings>>Control Panel and double-click on the SCSI Adapters icon.  You will need to place your Windows NT Operating System disk into a drive to continue with the driver installation.
  1. Select the Drivers Tab and click on the Add… button.
  1. An Install Driver menu will appear.  Select Adaptec from the Manufacturers list and select Adaptec AHA-294X/AHA-394X or AIC-78XX PCI SCSI Controller from the SCSI adapter list.  Next click OK.  Windows NT will install the system driver (aic78xx.sys 27KB).
  1. Go to C:\Winnt\system32\drivers to check that aic78xx.sys 27 KB driver was installed.
    Note: You must use the aic78xx.sys 27KB file size driver for CAMAC LabVIEW Diagnostic programs to work correctly.  If NT loaded a aic78xx.sys Driver of a different size file then 27KB it will not work correctly.  Therefore, you will have to copy and paste the aic78xx.sys 27KB file in the drivers folder.
  1. Copy the following files from the file downloaded above to C:\WINNT\system32 on the target computer:
    • cvirt.dll
    • cvirte.dll
    • cvirt (folder)
    • wnaspi32.dll
    The cvirt.dll is a wrapper DLL that has all the entry points to the LVI library functions.  The cvirte.dll contains all the code to support the LVI library functions for EXEs and DLLs.
  1. Next run the Adaptec aspi32.exe program to install the ASPI (Advanced SCSI Programming Interface) drivers on your desktop computer.  After you install the ASPI drivers, reboot your computer to reflect the new settings.
  2. Now run the Adaptec aspichk.exe program to test whether your system is set up properly for SCSI devices.  It should say ASPI is properly installed and is fully operational.
  1. Installation of the Adaptec AHA-2940AU SCSI host adapter is now complete.  Please continue with the LabVIEW 6.0.2 Runtime Engine installation.
